Psychology counselling for St Kilda residents

We provide a range of psychological therapies designed to help individuals overcome emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Interpersonal Therapy

Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) is a structured approach that focuses on improving relationships and communication patterns. It is effective for individuals experiencing social difficulties, grief, or relationship conflicts.

CBT is a widely used evidence-based therapy that helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress. It is effective for anxiety, depression, and stress management.

CBT-E is a ‘transdiagnostic’ personalised treatment for people experiencing Eating Disorders. It involves an active, collaborative approach between therapist and client to address cognitive and behavioural change, and is one of the most widely used approaches to eating disorder treatment.

ACT is a mindfulness-based therapy that helps individuals develop psychological flexibility by encouraging them to accept their thoughts and emotions rather than fighting or avoiding them. The therapy focuses on identifying core values and committing to meaningful actions that align with those values, even in the presence of distress or discomfort. ACT is particularly effective for anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and stress management.

DBT is an approach to therapy which focuses on the management of emotional response to life events. It focuses of emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness.

Mindfulness-based therapies use meditation, breathing techniques, and present-moment awareness to help individuals regulate emotions and reduce stress. These approaches encourage a non-judgmental acceptance of thoughts and feelings, allowing for greater clarity and emotional balance. Mindfulness therapies are highly effective for managing anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation while promoting overall well-being.

Therapy structure

Our therapy process follows a structured approach to ensure each client receives the best possible care.

Assessment Phase

The first stage of therapy involves a comprehensive psychological assessment. This includes an in-depth discussion of your concerns, history, and therapy goals. The psychologist will develop a tailored treatment plan based on this assessment.

Treatment Phase

The treatment phase consists of regular therapy sessions focused on addressing identified concerns. Depending on the therapeutic approach, sessions may include skill-building exercises, self-reflection, and goal-setting to foster long-term mental well-being.
