Psychological Counselling can take different forms depending on the needs of the client and the training and experience of the therapist. Psychologists at Mind Body Well approach therapy in a manner which is person centered, creating a unique therapeutic approach in collaboration with each client. Our approaches are evidence based and professionally informed.

Some people prefer to work conversationally in therapy, approaching change in a manner which is inquiring and seeks to understand themselves and the world they live in. Others like a more practical, directive approach, responding to techniques designed to give clear guidance and techniques for change. This personal approach to therapy is determined collaboratively with clients, depending on their own preferences and needs.

Our Psychologists use various techniques and approaches in counselling, including:

  • Interpersonal Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Existential Therapy
  • Somatic Therapy
  • Mindfulness Therapies
  • Relaxation Therapy

Accredited Practicing Dietitians are qualified health professionals who can assist people to translate scientifically relevant nutritional information to their own lives and circumstances, establishing eating pattern which nourish body and mind, enabling people to live well.

A Dietetic consultation can assist anyone who wants to improve their health and nutrition through food and lifestyle change, supporting people to build a healthy relationship with food and with their bodies.

Dietetic therapy not only focuses on food and eating but can also address concerns about body image, weight, physical activities and thought patterns that may be preventing people from living a healthy balanced life.

All of the practitioners at Mind Body Well have significant experience and skills in working with people with Eating Disorders, body image and weight management concerns. We specifically use a non-dieting approach to understand the relationship we have with food and with our bodies, prioritising wellbeing and self-care.

Some people come to our practice specifically to focus on issues of healthy weight management or recovery from an Eating Disorder. In this instance our clients may see one of our Psychologists or our Dietitian independently, or they may see both practitioners as a team, providing a more comprehensive approach to therapy. Our practitioners also work closely with other Health Professionals outside our practice to ensure consistency in your care. This may include your Doctor, Psychiatrist, Allied Health professionals, and Complementary Therapy practitioners.

Some of the issues our practitioners have extensive experience in treating are:

  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Bulimia Nervosa
  • Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified
  • Binge Eating Disorder
  • Avoidant / Restrictive Food Intake Disorder
  • Compulsive overeating
  • Restrictive eating behaviours
  • Compulsive exercise
  • Body image problems
  • Body dysmorphia
  • Orthorexia
  • Concerns with weight and shape

Where appropriate, our practitioners will work closely with your treating Doctor to ensure that your medical care is prioritised.
